APPROACH | top | WELCOME Mike Ross is a world-renowned photojournalist with more than 15 years of professional experience. His uniquely intuitive eye consistently finds and captures moments of personal expression and timeless emotion. When photographing your event, Mike treats your wedding story just like he would treat an important journalistic assignment, blending into his surroundings, moving and thinking quickly and in a non-obtrusive manner, and capturing great dynamic artistic photos throughout your wedding celebration. Most of his clients' later comment that they didn't even realize they had been photographed, marveling at the thoroughness of the coverage of the events of the day! His love for capturing an ever-changing story and his passion for photojournalism are the main reasons why couples have chosen him time and time again, making him New England's Premier wedding photojournalist. While 80% of his images are photojournalistic in style, the other 20% round out your photo selection with beautiful portraiture, formal family group shots and any other shots you request. Mike's images reveal the true details of your wedding story. Choosing a photographer will be a major part of your wedding plans. Mike believes in letting the event happen naturally and simply documenting the day. This approach captures more memorable images than an approach that require a lot of set-up shots, disturbing the natural flow and ambience of your wedding day. In commissioning Mike as your photojournalist, you can be assured that his manner and personality will fit well with you and your guests. No one will follow you through the most private moments of your wedding day more closely and respectfully than a great photojournalist. Q. Is your approach to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs the same as for weddings? A: Because some Temples don't allow photography during the actual Bar/Bat Mitzvah, I consult with the client and will be available to do ceremonial shots during the rehearsal, which normally takes place a few days before the ceremony. For example, gather in front of the Bema to take pictures of each generation with mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, and the great-grands and pictures taken with the Torah and the Rabbi. Plus coverage of the ceremony at the temple (if allowed) or at a dress rehearsal Highlights at the reception include the candle lighting, dancing, table shots of all your family and friends, and lots of games. Q: Do you work alone or with an assistant? A: Depending on the clients needs I can work alone or with a second shooter. Q. What type of photographic equipment do you use? A: I use Canon professional 35mm film and digital equipment as it allows me to work faster as compared to medium- format and yields more usable images for your albums. Q. Do you shoot with digital or film? A: I shoot 95% of my events digitally but offer my clients the option of shooting the entire Bar/Bat Mitzvah with color or black & white 35mm or medium format negative film with a price adjustment. Q. Do you shoot all in color or also in black %26 white? A: Yes, I shoot with a Canon Eos 1D mark II and a Canon Eos 20 D. Both cameras are 8.43 mega pixel camera but also have the ability of producing color and black & white images simultaneously. Between the two I mix 80% color with 20% black and white. Q: Can we purchase the proofs, or are they part of the package? A: The proofs are part of the package you choose. Q: How long does the studio keep the negatives/images on file? If you call in six years, will you be able to get a replacement photo? A: The negatives or digital files are given to the client upon completion of the proof album. Q. How can we reprint specific pictures from our proof albums? A: Each custom 4x6 print will have a unique file number on the back of the print that corresponds to the DVD/CD ROM so you can obtain reprints easily. Q: Does the studio also have a videographer? If so, is there a savings in contracting for both the video and the stills from the same studio? A: No, but references can be provided. Q: What kind of albums do you offer? For example, is there a choice between matted and full-page photos? A: We provide a variety of albums, covers and sizes. Q: How soon after the event will you see proofs? And how soon after that will you have your finished photos and albums? A: Approximately 3-4 weeks after the event the online galleries will be available and final proof albums will be delivered in 6-8 weeks.
BAR / BAT MITZVAH TESTIMONIALS | top | 11.12.2005 Outstanding photos Dear Mike, We can't thank you enough for the outstanding photos you took at Ian's bar mitzvah. You really captured the emotions of the day beautifully on film! (Or is it disc now?) Equally as impressive as your product is your professionalism and demeanor. Not only did you take great shots, you did so unobtrusively. And perhaps best of all, you were such a pleasure to be around: happy, nice, and -- at least according to my mom and Bryan's dad -- a great conversationalist. We'll certainly be recommending you to anyone in need of a photographer! And be prepared to do my younger son Ben's bar mitzvah in 2009! A very happy, healthy and prosperous new year to you and yours! Best regards, Allison Goldberg Ridgefield,CT
11.26.2005 Wonderful Photographer Mike Ross is a wonderful photographer who caputured the essence of our joy, the festivity of the dancing, the meaning of our day, overall: the in-between moments an ordinary portrait can't capture. He turned motion into a quiet stillness that suspended our daughter's moments into timeless images we will treasure forever. Best regards, Elise Wiener New Haven,CT
